Chapter 505: Sacrificing a Teammate
Chapter 505: Chapter 505: Sacrificing a Teammate
Although it pained her to use the Divine Wood, Nina Jacobs still wanted to give it a try.
This place wasn’t close to Veridia.
These people were collecting supplies from resource points along their route, and they probably had no way to offload them mid-trip.
Most of the supplies they collected would be stored in the space of a Space Superpower User.
Just like Julian Shaw’s space, which contained a large amount of Drakonian supplies.
"You’re the first living person I’ve tried this on. I have no idea if it’ll work.
If it doesn’t, this will be a real waste."
Nina Jacobs muttered under her breath.
Gordon wanted to escape, but he was bound by a Thunder Net, unable to move an inch.
After the Divine Wood was stuffed into Gordon’s mouth, Wayne Warner gave him a light punch, and Gordon cried out in pain as he swallowed it down.
"What did you make me eat!"
Gordon coughed in agony.
Swallowing a block of wood whole was not a pleasant feeling.
Moreover, the way the woman before him looked at him was like he was a lab rat.
She seemed to be using her Superpower to do something to his body.
Gordon felt his brain losing control over his body.
Nina Jacobs watched the time, and she watched Gordon’s reaction.
According to the method used in Whittaker Town, when using the Puppetry Technique on a person, you first had to "kill" their subjective consciousness.
But she couldn’t accomplish that step yet.
She had to rely on the Divine Wood and her Wood Element Superpower for control.
It took longer than she expected for Gordon to become unresponsive.
More than ten minutes later, Puppet Gordon’s gaze was just like Evander Langdon’s had been.
However, Nina Jacobs knew that if he was removed from the control of her Wood Element Superpower, the Puppetry Technique used on Gordon would likely fail very quickly.
"Let’s go. Take me to your Space Superpower User."
Nina Jacobs commanded.
Wayne Warner had already dissipated the Thunder Net, and Gordon staggered to his feet.
"How many Space Superpower Users do you have in total?"
Nina Jacobs asked, following behind Gordon.
When it came to answering a question, Gordon seemed completely unable to process it, and he stopped dead in his tracks.
’So it doesn’t work like a Truth-telling Talisman?’
Nina Jacobs issued a new command, and only then did Gordon resume walking forward.
The Puppetry Technique could only issue commands to make a puppet "do" or "say" something.
But it couldn’t make their brains recall things they previously knew, so naturally, no secrets could be extracted.
The entrance to the outskirts of Mirewood was still some distance from the urban center.
Nina Jacobs ordered Gordon to get in the car, and then drove inside.
It wasn’t until they saw several more white vans that the three of them got out of the car.
In the middle of the vans was a white box truck.
ROAR!
Zombies were already lunging at the trio.
Gordon made no move to dodge. Nina Jacobs waved her hand, dispatching the few zombies with Fireballs.
Standing there, they could still hear the sounds of fighting and gunfire coming from within the town.
Nina Jacobs decided to wait here for a bit.
"Let’s at least wait until they’ve killed most of the zombies inside."
After speaking, Nina Jacobs used her Gold Element Superpower to rip open the door of the white box truck.
There were no supplies inside. Instead, it was filled with surveillance monitors.
The images on the screens appeared to be showing the battles on various streets within the town.
"Mr. Gordon? What are you doing here?
Who are these two?"
The two men inside the truck, who were watching the screens, saw Gordon and spoke in a language Nina Jacobs couldn’t understand.
Seeing Gordon remain silent, the two men realized something was wrong.
Just as they were about to grab the walkie-talkie to report, two surges of Thunder Superpower instantly subdued them.
Wayne Warner killed the two men directly with his Thunder Element Superpower.
Nina Jacobs looked at the scenes on the screens. "It seems this place is used to monitor the surroundings,
but this equipment..."
Nina Jacobs recognized the equipment. It was a shared, point-to-point drone projection system.
This equipment belonged to the Crowley Group.
It seemed they really were connected to the situation in Stenmore.
The footage on the screens was real-time and very clear.
Based on what she saw, Nina Jacobs deduced there were about a hundred people inside the town.
Voices periodically crackled from the walkie-talkie, but it wasn’t the Drakonian language.
Besides killing zombies, those people were also focused on rummaging through every room and roadside vehicle for supplies.
Unfortunately, the supplies in the town had likely been cleared out long ago.
The foreigners on camera were cursing and swearing, and Nina Jacobs watched in amusement.
’Then why were the supplies in Vornholt still there?’
Her question was soon answered.
Something seemed to flash past in two of the camera feeds.
Nina Jacobs guessed that the original duty of the two men in the monitoring room was to warn the people inside of any danger.
But now, those two had been killed by them.
’What just flashed by must have been a Speed Element zombie.’
’Could it be because of this Speed Element zombie?’
Listening to the series of miserable screams coming from the screens, Nina Jacobs watched with great interest.
"Damn it! Why was there no warning?!"
"Are the people in the monitoring room dead? Why didn’t they warn us that such a powerful zombie was here!"
"AHH!!"
The Speed Element zombie’s figure was so fast the cameras could barely capture it, and Nina Jacobs believed the people on the scene weren’t having any more luck.
Many people were pierced by its sharp claws before they even noticed the zombie approaching.
’Intermediate Speed Element.’
Nina Jacobs deduced.
However, she didn’t underestimate these foreigners. They had certainly come prepared.
Just then, two of the injured people were ordered to stand in an open area.
"We swear to serve Sanctis to the death!"
One of them shouted something Nina Jacobs couldn’t understand, but she could tell it was some kind of oath.
’I see. Are they using their own people as live bait?’
The scent of blood on the two of them quickly attracted something.
After one of them was bitten, he immediately grabbed onto the thing that had appeared next to him and refused to let go.
"AHH!!"
Seeing this, the other person also grabbed onto the zombie from the other side.
Even though the two were instantly riddled with holes by the Speed Element zombie’s claws, they remained in a tight embrace even after death.
Soon, six Superpower Users emerged from the shadows and surrounded it.
The six Superpower Users were quite strong, and everyone else was coordinating with them.
One of them, a Thunder Element Superpower User, even laid an inescapable Thunder Net trap.
But the Speed Element zombie was clearly a cut above, able to break free from all restraints while moving at high speed.
The six main combat Superpower Users were quickly reduced to four.
In the end, a Wood Element Superpower User repeated the same tactic. Burning through their Wood Element Superpower, they transformed their body into wood and clung tightly to the Speed Element zombie.
Only then were the remaining three able to work together to kill the zombie.
Watching the remaining people cheer on camera, Nina Jacobs yawned.
’So sacrificing your teammates for a power boost really works, huh?’
"But it doesn’t seem to be that simple."
Nina Jacobs watched the cheering foreigners on the screen.
Although the drones didn’t capture it, she thought she heard something.
A surging sound from beneath the ground, and frantic scratching.
Mirewood was a major agricultural county, so there were bound to be plenty of small animals like field mice. The reason they weren’t captured by the drones was probably because the drones were only focused on the town center.
And those rustling sounds were coming from all around.
That must be the sound of Zombie Rats.
To be safe, Nina Jacobs formed a Diamond Sand Cover.
The sand shield completely enveloped the monitoring truck, even sealing it off from below.
"The rest depends on their own abilities."
Nina Jacobs took out two ice-cold colas, gave one to Wayne Warner, and the two of them sat down to watch the situation on the screens.
