After I Fully Prepared for the Apocalypse, the Ungrateful Cried with Regret

Chapter 470: Acquaintance

Chapter 470: Chapter 470: Acquaintance

Nina Jacobs had already inspected the three armored cars, inside and out.

The only thing she could deduce was that these people probably weren’t locals from Keldorn.

The car bodies and helicopter fuselages all bore an unfamiliar logo.

This indicated they were affiliated with some organization.

She just didn’t know what they were planning to investigate at Tomorrow Base.

She decided to just observe for now.

Lyra Thorne had someone put the several helicopters away into space.

Godfrey Thatcher, on the other hand, put away his own SUV.

"These people don’t look like they’re short on supplies or water."

Godfrey Thatcher said, leaning closer to Nina Jacobs.

As soon as they got in the car, someone brought them food and water.

But since they were on the road, they all chose not to touch any of it for now.

That included Han Lewis, who had been in a constant state of amazement.

Irwing had reminded him that he’d been taken down with drugged food right before he lost his memory...

"Right. And let’s not mention what happened in Whittaker Town for now."

Nina also reminded them.

They all nodded. Then, Irwing picked up what looked like a magazine from behind one of the seats.

To be more precise, it was a personal photobook.

"What was this celebrity’s name again? The TV show he was in before was pretty good."

Seeing a photobook like this again gave Irwing a feeling of nostalgia, as if she’d been transported back to a long-lost time.

"His name is Silas Crowley. The last TV series he starred in was *Sandalwood*, and his first movie was *Invisible*."

Audrey Lewis, who had just boarded the vehicle, said.

She casually pulled another book out from under a seat. Its cover also featured Silas Crowley.

As did the one in Wayne Warner’s hands beside her.

Nina was a little surprised to see Wayne Warner staring at the man on the cover.

’Does Silas Crowley really have that many fans?’

"Yes, yes, that’s him."

"I wonder what celebrities do in the apocalypse?"

Irwing began to imagine.

"Celebrities are people too. They have to survive, too."

"It’s just that..."

Audrey Lewis’s voice choked with emotion.

"You really like him?"

Nina asked as the vehicle slowly began to move.

Lyra Thorne had explained before they boarded that Audrey Lewis had recently lost a family member and was still in great pain.

Her indiscriminate zombie-killing spree these past few days was just her way of venting.

"Yes. I’ve liked him since I was a child."

Audrey Lewis replied.

’Since she was little...’

’Does that mean Silas Crowley is actually very old?’

Seeing Audrey Lewis stroke the image of Silas Crowley on the magazine with such a sorrowful expression, Nina couldn’t shake a strange feeling.

Just then, the intercom in the car crackled. It was Lyra Thorne’s voice:

"Miss Jacobs, we need to pick up a few people up ahead. It’s on our way, but we might need to stop for a moment."

"Alright," Nina replied.

Audrey Lewis also spoke up: "They’re two locals from Keldorn who have been guiding us in our search recently. They were friends with my... my family member before."

"They even... even saw his last moments..."

"It’s my fault. I just couldn’t believe he was really gone."

Lyra Thorne and Gemma Lucas didn’t want her to keep drowning in self-blame and grief, so they were willing to go along with her reckless plans.

They had blown up many zombies, and she had gunned down quite a few herself.

But she had only just realized that everything she did had been for nothing.

"You can’t bring back the dead. Try not to take it so hard."

Ethan Chase said, offering some comfort.

At least this Audrey Lewis in front of him wasn’t taking her anger out on people, which already made her better than many others.

The three armored cars soon pulled into a large, open courtyard that looked like it had been cleared.

An RV was parked in the courtyard.

As soon as Audrey Lewis got out of the car, two people with weapons slung over their backs walked toward her.

They appeared to be her people.

Immediately after, the RV door opened, and two more people stepped out.

"Mr. Lawson, it’s time for us to go."

Audrey Lewis said politely to the two men.

"Aaron Hayes, Sean Vance, go get your things and the car ready. We’re leaving now."

She then ordered the two armed men.

The two nodded, but the other two men asked in surprise:

"So soon?"

"Where are we headed next?"

Edmund Lawson asked.

They hadn’t had nearly enough time to relax here.

"To Tomorrow Base."

Lyra Thorne replied as she walked over.

"You and your partner have taken us to many places, Mr. Lawson. If this Tomorrow Base is safe, we can escort you there."

"Tomorrow Base? We’re not going! We’re not going!"

To Lyra Thorne’s surprise, both of them were adamant that they absolutely would not go after hearing the name "Tomorrow Base."

"That’s right, we’ll just go to your base, that’ll be fine."

"We’re not going to Tomorrow Base."

Leoric Donovan said.

"There’s something you all don’t know. Tomorrow Base is simply no place for a normal person to survive."

"They’re short on food and water, they oppress and kill people at will—it’s even worse than Lornwood Base!"

"If you go there, you’ll never make it out of there!"

Edmund Lawson chimed in, trying his best to persuade them.

Was Tomorrow Base really that bad?

After hearing the two men speak, Lyra Thorne and Audrey Lewis grew hesitant.

"It sounds like you two have been to Tomorrow Base?"

"Or have you just been swindling people out here ever since you were kicked out of Lornwood Base?"

A voice that sent a chill through them like an icy plunge cut through the air. Leoric Donovan’s eyes immediately widened.

"You... you... you! What are you doing here?"

Watching Nina Jacobs approach step by step, the two men immediately hid behind Audrey Lewis.

"Long time no see."

Nina said, her eyes fixed on the two men.

Previously, at Lornwood Base, Edmund Lawson had occupied Silas Crowley’s house. After he and his group were beaten up, she had given them the task of spreading rumors about Tomorrow Base.

But after the rumors started to spread, Silas Crowley and Reginald Sutton drove them out of Lornwood Base, warning that they would be killed if they ever came back.

This was also done to make the base’s residents question the truth of the rumors.

’She just hadn’t expected these two to still be alive, and to actually be smearing Tomorrow Base’s name.’

"You know each other?"

Audrey Lewis asked.

"We’re more than just acquainted," Nina sneered.

Just then, Leoric Donovan seemed to remember something and shouted, pointing at Nina Jacobs:

"It was her! She’s the one who killed Silas Crowley!"

"She used Silas Crowley as a human shield against the zombies! That’s how he died!"

The moment those words were out, the atmosphere instantly shifted.

Gemma Lucas and the others, who had just gotten out of the car, also froze in place, watching the scene in shock.

At that moment, Nina finally understood the source of her earlier strange feeling.

The person Audrey Lewis and her group were looking for was Silas Crowley.

No wonder the car was filled with things related to Silas Crowley. She wasn’t his fan; she was his family.

Lyra Thorne steadied Audrey Lewis and asked doubtfully:

"Mr. Lawson, I recall you saying last time that Silas Crowley got scratched by a zombie while he was protecting you and Leoric Donovan."

"Right, right, it’s all because of her!"

"If it weren’t for her, Silas Crowley wouldn’t have had to protect us, and he wouldn’t have been scratched!"

Edmund Lawson was starting to sound desperate.

"Miss Jacobs, what’s really going on here?"

By now, Lyra Thorne was starting to doubt the two men. In fact, she had known even before this that their intentions weren’t good.

It was just that Edmund Lawson had told them so many stories about Silas Crowley. He described in detail how he and Silas had struggled to survive together in Lornwood Base after the apocalypse, and everything they had endured.

That was why Audrey Lewis had trusted them so completely.

"Silas Crowley is a friend of mine. He should be at Tomorrow Base right now."

Nina replied.

If all had gone according to plan, Silas Crowley should be with Connor Sutton and Tobin, overseeing the transfer of survivors between the two bases.

"Silas isn’t dead?"

A light ignited once more in Audrey Lewis’s eyes.
