Chapter 463: Two Mountains of Supplies
Chapter 463: Chapter 463: Two Mountains of Supplies
Although she hadn’t entered the mountain yet, the tracks of the Wooden Wheel Car leading here said it all.
A Superpower User’s vision, combined with her Five Senses Enhancement, allowed Nina Jacobs to see everything with perfect clarity.
The low mountain was built from stone and concrete. Its immense size made it look even more real than the rockeries in a classical garden.
Nina Jacobs quickly found the entrance to the mountain gate, which was concealed by dead grass and wood fragments.
"There are no traps or hidden weapons here," Nina Jacobs stated, certain.
The builders probably feared drawing attention to the place, so they hadn’t set up anything obvious.
There must be some other special mechanism inside the mountain gate. Nina Jacobs found that her Earth Element Superpower alone couldn’t budge it.
Wayne Warner, crouching below, tugged on the corner of Nina Jacobs’s shirt and pointed to a spot at the bottom of the gate.
"A key?"
Only then did Nina Jacobs notice a keyhole hidden in an inconspicuous spot at the very bottom of the mountain gate.
She took out the remaining set of keys and tried them. Sure enough, the second one worked.
After turning the key all the way, the mountain gate actually opened.
"Nice work."
Nina Jacobs gave Wayne Warner a thumbs-up.
In the darkness, Wayne Warner’s eyes lit up.
When the mountain gate opened, the lights inside turned on automatically.
Most of the bright light was blocked by towering stacks of goods.
Looking at the shocking scene before her, even Nina Jacobs, who had collected a great deal of supplies herself, couldn’t help but marvel.
This was a true mountain of supplies.
The inside of the low mountain had been constructed into a series of rectangular concrete compartments.
These compartments were stacked seven levels high, and every single one was stuffed with supplies.
The only remaining passage in the middle housed several forklifts and cranes, presumably for moving supplies from the upper levels.
At this moment, Nina Jacobs felt a twinge of regret. She should have cleared out more of her storage space before coming here.
As the two of them walked further in, they discovered an unimaginable amount of supplies.
A few Little Zombie Rats were scouting ahead.
What one of the Little Zombie Rats found made Nina Jacobs’s eyes light up.
"I can’t believe they collected all this, too."
It was box after box of various gold products, Gold Bars, and jewelry.
It was clear this had been collected by the Lornwood Base. Every box was labeled with the quantity, date, and which squad had collected it.
After looking them over, Nina Jacobs immediately put them into her storage space.
[Congratulations, Host! You have successfully collected 28,172 jin of Gold. You have triggered the "Doomsday Gold Digger" title and received 56 Level 5 Storage Spaces!]
The system’s notification sound rang out, and Nina Jacobs finally felt a little more at ease.
More Gold was required for a Level 5 Storage Space, but its capacity was also significantly larger.
’Maybe I can see if this is enough now.’
The vertical space inside the storage compartments was much greater than the horizontal area.
After stuffing one Level 5 Storage Space completely full, Nina Jacobs found it held the supplies from about 15 of the concrete compartments.
"It holds a lot more than I thought," Nina Jacobs said.
She also discovered that the supplies here had already been meticulously sorted and repackaged.
Some storage boxes were filled with small packages of biscuits, pastries, honey, or cured meat, and so on.
General Hughes must have removed the bulky packaging, keeping only the useful parts.
This not only saved space but also reduced the number of transport trips.
After an hour, she had only managed to collect half of the supplies inside the entire mountain.
Because the supplies were separated by the concrete compartments, she could only collect the contents of one entire compartment at a time.
Fortunately, Wayne Warner had already moved down many of the remaining supplies from up ahead, saving her a lot of time.
Nina Jacobs didn’t reappear in Whittaker Town until the afternoon of the next day.
Whittaker Town was deathly silent.
The blood splattered on the roads and walls was even more shocking than it had been the night she left.
She couldn’t help but frown.
’The zombies should have all been killed when I went to find Lincoln White.’
"Nina Jacobs?! You’re still alive?"
A familiar voice called out. It was Irwing.
Holly Morgan was behind her.
Irwing said, her voice filled with surprise and delight.
Holly Morgan looked at her too, seemingly confused about her sudden disappearance.
"Yeah, I had to take care of something. Did something happen here?" Nina Jacobs asked.
Irwing nodded. "Late last night, the people locked in the cellar somehow got out. Lincoln White’s Puppetry Technique must have completely failed. They captured the remaining members of the White Family one by one... and, and killed them. Early this morning, the Superpower Users who went to find Flynn White also came back. Seeing that the White Family was finished, they started looting and scrambling for supplies everywhere. Then, the people from the cellar seized the supplies in the White Manor, and they started fighting again..."
Irwing trembled nonstop as she finished speaking.
The White Family had been wiped out in a single night, and the remaining people had gone mad.
Luckily, she had Holly Morgan protecting her, so she wasn’t captured and indiscriminately killed by those people.
She had also checked the clinic where she worked; none of the doctors or Healers inside had survived.
"So that’s what happened. What about Han Lewis?"
Nina Jacobs suddenly remembered that before she went to the White Manor, she had told Han Lewis to go hide in the wooden cabin.
But when she, Irwing, and the others rushed over, they found no sign of Han Lewis in the cabin.
"We haven’t seen him either."
Irwing was also very worried.
Whittaker Town was only so big. Where could Han Lewis have gone?
"Let’s go look for him," Nina Jacobs decided.
Although Han Lewis was no friend or relative, he had given her crucial advice several times.
Nina Jacobs activated her Five Senses Enhancement. She didn’t hear Han Lewis’s voice, but she did hear something else.
"The cellar?"
Irwing followed Nina Jacobs to the cellar entrance. Was Nina Jacobs suspecting that Han Lewis was hiding in the cellar?
"I’m not sure, but we have to look."
The group descended the filthy cellar steps.
The smell in the cellar was unusually foul, but they were all used to it by now.
Wayne Warner took out a lamp and walked ahead of the group.
When he reached a certain spot, he stopped.
In a corner piled high with junk, a figure was sitting.
It was an unfamiliar man who looked to be of a certain age.
He sat in the corner, holding a Wood Carving in his hand.
When he saw them, he used his hands to smooth his long, matted hair on both sides of his head.
"Well, well. Not The Whites, and not puppets. And a few pretty young ladies?"
The man placed his hands on the sides of his chair and fiddled with something.
Only then did the group realize he was sitting in a wooden wheelchair.
"Your last name is White?" Nina Jacobs asked, glancing around.
Besides the junk, the cellar was filled with Wood Carvings.
Even with just a glance, she could tell the craftsmanship of the Wood Carvings was exquisite.
"Heh, my last name isn’t White. If it were, I wouldn’t have been locked up in here," the man said.
"Ah! Your legs..."
Irwing was a Healer and had medical knowledge. She was shocked when she saw the man’s severed legs.
His legs hadn’t been disabled from birth; they looked like they had been forcibly hacked off. The overgrown flesh at the wounds was a thick, lumpy mass.
Someone must have done this to him some time ago, but it had received some kind of simple treatment.
"Lincoln White cut them off," the man said.
"You’re the creator of the Wooden Wheel Car?" Nina Jacobs asked.
"You’re an interesting one, little lady. How do you know about that? Tell me, who sent you here?" Ethan Chase asked, looking up.
