Chapter 444: Chapter 444: The Attracted Zombies
Getting scolded by a parent in front of so many people was apparently a great loss of face.
Breaking character, Julia Hughes pointed at General Hughes and said:
"Daddy’s a coward! When the zombies come, all you do is get scared! You can’t protect Julia and Mommy! I’m gonna throw a fit! I’m gonna throw a fit!"
A vein throbbed on General Hughes’s temple. He’d reached the end of his rope and swung his hand, slapping her across the face.
Hearing the eruption of loud sobs from the living room, Nina Jacobs gave a lazy yawn.
Then, the couple seemed to start arguing again.
The melodrama continued late into the night. When Nina Jacobs came out, she found the living room in a complete mess.
The reason she had come out was that a large number of zombies had appeared near the villa, forcing General Hughes to take his men outside to deal with them.
Arcadia White had already taken her daughter upstairs to hide.
Godfrey Thatcher was tidying up the chaotic living room, a weary look on his face.
Fortunately, since Godfrey Thatcher was a Space Superpower User, he could absorb some of the debris directly into his personal space to be disposed of later.
"Sorry you had to see that," he said.
Godfrey Thatcher shrugged helplessly.
Nina Jacobs, meanwhile, activated her Fire Element Superpower, quickly drying the damp floor. She then used her Earth Element Superpower to sweep the dust and debris out into the yard.
Wayne Warner, for his part, set the overturned furniture back upright.
He had just eaten a large dinner in his room and hadn’t had a chance to move around yet.
Godfrey Thatcher gave a thumbs-up. "Thanks."
"Don’t mention it."
Nina Jacobs stepped into the yard. She, too, could hear the sounds of zombie roars and fighting in the distance.
But her mission was to protect Mrs. White and Julia Hughes, so she didn’t need to go out.
’Sounds like there are quite a few zombies,’ she thought.
Nina Jacobs released a Little Zombie Rat, and it scurried off in one direction under the cover of darkness.
A moment later, she could see what was happening outside.
Under the cover of night, more zombies were converging on their position.
"I wonder what’s going on out there."
Godfrey Thatcher closed the front door and walked into the yard.
"If only my Superpower could kill zombies," he sighed. "It’s a shame all I can do is this pointless stuff."
Hearing Godfrey Thatcher’s words, Nina Jacobs said:
"A Space Superpower can definitely kill zombies. I have two friends who’ve managed it.
If you practice enough, it’s not impossible for you either."
Ian Chandler and Shirley Lucas had both used her Skill Books to master different ways of using their Space Superpowers.
That was proof that a Space Superpower could be used to kill zombies.
"Really? If there’s a precedent, then I’ve got to start practicing hard. Thank you!"
Godfrey Thatcher’s interest was immediately piqued.
Nina Jacobs, however, glanced in another direction. Something was approaching.
"You should go inside."
Godfrey Thatcher was still chattering away when he heard Nina Jacobs’s sharp command.
’Go inside?’
Godfrey Thatcher froze, not understanding why Nina Jacobs would say that.
But then, he saw a faint blue light arcing toward them through the pitch-black night.
"A zombie?!"
Godfrey Thatcher saw that both Nina Jacobs and Wayne Warner had assumed defensive stances.
"It’s a Thunder Element. Be careful," Nina Jacobs said.
It had bypassed the area with the most people to launch a surprise attack from the rear, which proved it possessed a certain level of intelligence.
The next moment, Wayne Warner grabbed Godfrey Thatcher with one hand and tossed him back inside the house.
In the darkness, the zombie spotted the two of them standing to its left and right.
It then picked up speed and charged toward them!
A blue arc of electricity cut through the night, smashing down toward Nina Jacobs!
BOOM!
A Diamond Sand Cover blocked the massive Thunder Ball, but instead of dissipating, the electricity quickly spread across the surface of the sand shield.
A Stone Spike shot up from the ground, but just as it was about to pierce the Thunder Zombie’s chin, the creature dodged it!
As if enraged, it slammed a palm onto the ground, and blue currents of electricity began to spread out in all directions.
"It’s an Intermediate!" Nina Jacobs confirmed.
With that speed and range, this Thunder Zombie had to have reached the Intermediate level.
Wayne Warner enveloped his body in his power and, stepping right onto the electrified ground, smashed a fist into the side of the zombie’s face!
"ROAR!!"
The Thunder Zombie quickly pulled back, its wariness clearly heightened.
At that moment, Nina Jacobs conjured several Flaming Arrows in midair that shot straight for the Thunder Zombie!
Even as it dodged, the arrows relentlessly pursued it.
"It’s heading your way!" Nina Jacobs shouted as a warning.
The arrows herded the Thunder Zombie right in front of Wayne Warner, who unleashed a rain of fists upon it.
BAM!
Although the Thunder Zombie managed to block Wayne Warner’s kick with a Thunder Shield, it was still sent flying.
Nina Jacobs instantly covered the ground behind it with Stone Spikes.
But with a ZAP, a Thunder Net materialized to catch the zombie, saving it from being impaled on the spikes.
’An Intermediate Thunder Element... its strength really is impressive,’ Nina thought.
Nina Jacobs’s interest was piqued. Few Intermediate Zombies could last this many rounds against her and Wayne Warner.
The light of thunder and fire intertwined in the night. General Hughes and his men, still busy fighting zombies elsewhere, had long since noticed the commotion.
BOOM!
A Thunder Element Superpower and a Fire Element Superpower collided, the sound tearing through the sky.
Several nearby walls had already collapsed.
Behind a Thunder Net and a Fire Shield, Nina Jacobs stood face-to-face with the Thunder Zombie.
General Hughes and his men arrived just in time to witness the scene.
The magnificent orange flames seemed to set the very night ablaze, flowing like liquid over the Thunder Net that covered the ground for several meters.
Just as the Thunder Zombie was about to escape, a long, sharp spike shot out of the darkness from behind and pierced straight through its head.
The lightning abruptly ceased.
Only the flickering, unspent flames remained.
"So Captain Jacobs and her partner are that strong..."
Someone behind Anselm Hughes remarked in awe.
They had never witnessed such a spectacle.
Wayne Warner emerged from the shadows. He had been coordinating with Nina Jacobs; it was he who had used his Strength Element Superpower to throw the Diamond Sand Spike at the critical moment.
Nina Jacobs dug out the Intermediate Thunder Element Crystal Core and quietly put it away.
Given when General Hughes had arrived, he likely wouldn’t be able to tell that it was an Intermediate Thunder Zombie.
Thinking this, Nina Jacobs feigned exhaustion and leaned against a nearby wall for support.
Seeing this, General Hughes understood. She must have just used all her strength, a clear sign of her Superpower being depleted.
"Good work, Nina Jacobs,"
General Hughes said as he walked over.
"Your Superpower has impressive burst damage, but the drawback is that it’s easy to overexert yourself.
You two go back and rest. Keep Mrs. White and Julia safe."
"Understood."
Nina Jacobs hadn’t planned on going back out to help anyway.
After all, the zombies had been drawn here by the "loving couple" themselves.
Godfrey Thatcher saw the two of them come inside and hurried over to greet them.
He now understood that Wayne Warner had thrown him inside to ensure his safety.
"You two are incredible!"
Godfrey Thatcher said excitedly after closing the door.
He had never seen such a powerful Thunder Zombie before.
In his eyes, Nina Jacobs was far more powerful than even General Hughes.
"Is Mrs. White alright?" Nina asked.
She’d had the feeling that Mrs. White had been watching her from upstairs the entire time.
"Julia and I are fine. Thank you, to you and Wayne Warner."
Arcadia White came downstairs, her tone now holding a new warmth.
"Were you injured? I have a rather well-stocked first-aid kit, and I know a little about dressing wounds."
Arcadia White asked with concern.
"I’m fine. Just a few minor scrapes, nothing that needs treating."
Nina Jacobs thanked her.
"Mommy, I want to kill zombies too!"
As soon as Julia Hughes spoke, Arcadia White gently shushed her. The girl then stormed upstairs in a huff.
