Chapter 533 - 255: Epic Skill Celestial-Burning Flame Spear, and Falling into the Depths
Chapter 533: Chapter 255: Epic Skill Celestial-Burning Flame Spear, and Falling into the Depths
After the Crystalized Spider Queen was slain, the remaining Crystalized Spiders on the battlefield fell into a panic. Like headless chickens, they lost all will to fight and began to scatter in every direction.
Lin Mo certainly wasn’t going to let them get away so easily. Without a word to the others, he rushed off in pursuit, a Flaming Spear already prepared in his hand, picking them off one by one.
After a period of pursuit, he had killed most of the Crystalized Spiders.
The rest weren’t as easy to find, so Lin Mo returned to the group.
By this time, the Adventurers and academy students had already begun clearing the battlefield together.
Having just fought side-by-side, the atmosphere between the two groups was fairly amicable.
Deke, despite being a seasoned veteran, was fundamentally a kind person. The students, even more so; having spent all their time at the academy, they had learned a great deal but lacked real-world experience, making most of them rather naive.
The two parties negotiated and agreed on how to divide the materials from the Crystalized Spiders.
Just as their discussions were wrapping up, Lin Mo returned.
"Lin Mo, you’re back just in time. About the Crystalized Spider Queen... since it was an unexpected bonus outside the mission, and you were the one who dealt with it alone, we discussed it and don’t feel right taking a share. These are the materials we’ve harvested from it. You should take them."
Lin Mo didn’t stand on ceremony. He nodded and stored the materials in his Ring of Space.
"I just hunted down a few more. We can collect the materials from them on our way out."
"Right."
...
Everyone was busy with their own tasks. A few Adventurers had been injured in the battle, and though the wounds weren’t severe, they still needed attention.
Feney was helping to Heal them, and Lin Mo lent a hand, earning a little Skill Level for himself in the process.
At the same time, his focus shifted to the notifications that had popped up during the battle.
The Demons he had killed in this battle were all relatively High Level.
Even the Ordinary Crystalized Spiders were Level 6 or 7, and each one gave a decent amount of Skill Level.
[Flaming Spear] Skill Level +40
[Flaming Spear] Skill Level +50
...
[Phantom Sword Dance] Skill Level +100
A stream of Skill Level notifications appeared, each with a large number. The final one, for 100 points, was from the Crystalized Spider Queen.
’This value seems a bit higher than what a typical Level 10 Demon gives,’ he thought. ’It’s probably because of its special status in the colony and its greater strength compared to other Level 10 Demons...’
With all this accumulated Skill Level, the [Flaming Spear] Skill reached Full Level.
"Skill [Flaming Spear] Level 6 (300/300) has leveled up!"
"Current Skill: [Flaming Spear] Level Seven (Max)"
"Received Basic Attribute Points: Magic Power +3, Spirit +2!"
"Automatically evolved into a New Skill—Celestial-Burning Flame Spear!"
"Skill Comprehension: [Celestial-Burning Flame Spear]! Received Basic Attribute Points: Magic Power +4, Spirit +1!"
[Celestial-Burning Flame Spear] Level 1 (0/20): Consume a large amount of Magic Power and resonate with the Fire Element to form an incomparably powerful "Celestial-Burning Flame Spear." The spear possesses the "Guaranteed Hit" trait; once a target is selected, it is certain to strike. If the enemy dodges, the spear will automatically give chase. Upon impact, it applies a potent "Burning" effect. If not removed with a Purification-type Skill, the flame will never be extinguished!
’It’s finally here,’ Lin Mo thought. ’My first purely single-target Epic Magic Skill.’
The Epic Magic Skill he’d previously acquired, [Frost Storm], was incredibly powerful and had an astonishing area of effect, but the threat it posed to a single enemy wasn’t actually that great.
This meant that, in terms of Magic, Lin Mo lacked a true kill-shot against High Level enemies. The [Celestial-Burning Flame Spear] Skill would fill that gap perfectly.
The sheer power of this Skill was palpable just from reading its description.
For starters, the "Guaranteed Hit" trait alone was bound to be a nightmare for his enemies.
This was different from the guaranteed hit on the final strike of Phantom Sword Dance. That one only took effect on the last wave of Sword Qi, and the threat it posed was dependent on the number of previous hits.
In essence, Phantom Sword Dance was a skill with high total damage, but it required time to dish it all out.
This new Skill, Celestial-Burning Flame Spear, however, was an instant-burst skill. For a burst skill to also have a Guaranteed Hit trait was frankly terrifying.
Moreover, once struck, the target would not only suffer the Skill’s immense damage but would also be afflicted with a potent Burning effect. If the enemy had no way to remove this status, the flames from Celestial-Burning Flame Spear would continue to burn, spreading over their entire body until they were burned alive!
A Guaranteed Hit and an eternal burn—these two traits made the Skill practically irreplaceable.
Lin Mo was extremely pleased with this Skill.
He eagerly turned his attention to the new Skill’s Evolutionary Path options.
Please select an Evolutionary Direction—
Evolutionary Path 1: Eternal Flame I: The "Burning" effect applied by Celestial-Burning Flame Spear is immune to Purification effects from sources with lower Magic Power than the caster!
Evolutionary Path 2: Deathblow I: The "Guaranteed Hit" effect of Celestial-Burning Flame Spear will have an additional 20% chance to automatically strike a vital point.
Neither Evolutionary Path involved simple numbers; they were both purely mechanical upgrades, and incredibly powerful ones at that.
