Chapter 529 - 253: The Unlucky Academy Team
Chapter 529: Chapter 253: The Unlucky Academy Team
Just as everyone began to collect the spiderwebs, a sudden scuttling sound echoed from deeper within the cave.
Lin Mo immediately looked up and saw three or four spiders, each nearly two meters tall and about five meters wide.
Their bodies were covered in a crystalline shell, making them look like meticulously carved works of art.
Of course, setting aside their crystalline shells, the appearances of the Demons themselves were hardly praiseworthy.
’So these are the Crystalized Spiders, huh?’
"Looks like these are the ones left behind to guard the nest."
After speaking, Deke looked over at Lin Mo. It wasn’t that he was being lazy; it was just that Lin Mo had been so incredibly proactive this whole time. If anyone even offered to help, he would actually get upset with them.
’It’s as if killing Demons is some kind of weird performance metric for him...’
Deke truly couldn’t understand why Lin Mo seemed to hate Demons with such a vengeance. Unlike last time, they had already agreed on how to split the rewards before this mission even started.
It was the same as before: Lin Mo would take 65 percent, and their side would take 35 percent.
Although Lin Mo was indeed taking the lion’s share, their cut was still a sizable reward. That was why Luke and the others had felt a bit awkward about Lin Mo doing all the fighting and had wanted to help out.
’The only thing I can think of is that he must just enjoy the feeling of combat.’
While Deke was mulling this over, Lin Mo had already charged forward.
[Flaming Spear]!
He started with that familiar Skill again. A crimson spear, wreathed in raging flames, hurtled toward the giant spider before him.
Unsurprisingly, Lin Mo’s Flaming Long Spear pierced straight through his opponent, pinning it to the wall. The searing flames elicited a piercing shriek from the Crystalized Spider.
The other Crystalized Spiders nearby charged at Lin Mo.
Lin Mo brought two fingers together and, with a casual flick, instantly cast [Demon Light Piercing Kill].
The powerful Sword Qi instantly tore a massive hole through one of the Crystalized Spiders.
Black blood gushed out, creating a stark contrast with its lustrous exterior.
Two Crystalized Spiders remained.
Lin Mo had intended to test out his newly acquired Skills.
But then he had a second thought: if he used it, he would level up to Level 3, and he wouldn’t be able to keep his Level capped.
So, he abandoned the idea and continued using [Flaming Spear].
The spear of fire formed once again. Lin Mo threw it and killed another spider.
He dealt with the last one in the same manner, feeding all the Skill Level points into that one Skill.
[Flaming Spear] Skill Level +50
[Demon Light Piercing Kill] Skill Level +50
[Flaming Spear] Skill Level +100
Three consecutive notifications appeared.
[Demon Light Piercing Kill] had already reached Level 3 when Lin Mo had, in a fluke, killed the mother Crystal-devouring Worm earlier.
As an Epic Skill, reaching Level 3 had also granted Lin Mo another 5 points to his Basic Strength Attribute. As for choosing an Evolutionary Path... he naturally went with his previous plan and selected Evolutionary Path 2, the one he hadn’t picked the first time.
The Skill’s current Skill Level was Level 3 (75/80), just 5 points shy of the next level.
As for [Flaming Spear], it had successfully reached Level 6.
"Skill [Flaming Spear] Level 5 (180/180) has leveled up!"
"Current Skill: [Flaming Spear] Level 6 (55/300)"
He was only 245 Skill Level points away from its evolution. At that point, his Mage Profession would be just one step away from reaching the Elite Level.
"Alright, nothing should be left to interrupt our web collecting now."
"Let’s get moving!"
"Everyone, pick up the pace. The shrieks of those Crystalized Spiders might have already alerted others," Deke warned.
Everyone immediately quickened their pace, beginning to carefully remove the spiderwebs from the walls.
Ten webs, twenty, thirty...
Before they knew it, the team members had collected 50 intact spiderwebs, each measuring two to three meters across.
But the webs were very durable and could be folded without worry of tearing, so they didn’t actually take up much space.
"There are so many more..."
"Yeah, all together, I bet there are over a hundred!"
Deke nodded, a hint of excitement in his voice.
If they pulled this off, then with the earnings from the previous C Level Task, he’d have enough to take a nice long break.
Of course, he didn’t let his guard down because of it.
Even though there were no suspicious signs at the moment, he was still constantly thinking about the possibility of the Crystalized Spiders that were out hunting returning to the nest.
"Speed it up. Let’s try to finish this as quickly as possible."
"Right!"
...
While the team was in the full swing of collecting webs, not too far away—about two or three kilometers from their location—a group of students from the Kingdom National Academy was locked in a desperate battle.
"Dammit, how did a monster like this suddenly show up here?"
A Warrior dodged an attack from above by a hair’s breadth, his scalp tingling with fear as he stared at the thick leg in front of him.
"I remember there being a Crystalized Spider nest nearby, but logically, these Demons should be out hunting far from here at this time!"
The Assassin nearby was also drenched in sweat, but thanks to his superior speed, his situation didn’t look as perilous as the Warrior’s.
"What do we do? Do we fight?"
Another Warrior looked to the squad’s captain, Eve.
Eve’s expression remained calm as she observed the spider Demon before them.
