Chapter 443 - 223: Arrival at Fajade City, Parting and the Inn

Chapter 443: Chapter 223: Arrival at Fajade City, Parting and the Inn

Though Lin Mo would likely never face the same issue as other Mages, he still needed to take his Meditation Technique practice seriously. After all, it was another way to increase his Strength.

However, Lin Mo didn’t dare to meditate for too long. He was currently trying to control his Mage Level, so it was best not to let the skill upgrade.

The next few days of their journey passed in much the same way.

Before they knew it, five full days had gone by since they left Silver Stream City.

"The Gale Horses are a bit faster than expected. At our current pace, we should be able to reach Fajade City by tomorrow evening."

Flora put down the map in her hands and lit the campfire before them.

With Shefilya’s help, Lin Mo was cleaning and carving up a rabbit they had just hunted.

The rabbit was a Level One Demon, and a fat one at that. It weighed a good twenty or thirty pounds, certainly more than enough for them to eat.

Although they had brought plenty of ingredients from Silver Stream City, it was naturally more enjoyable to eat something freshly killed and roasted.

"After we get there, will you all be returning to the Royal Capital?"

"I think so."

Flora nodded. "The academy has probably started classes already. Even though there’s a substitute, it’s better to hurry back... What, can’t bear to see me go?"

"A little, I guess."

Lin Mo met her gaze, staring into her beautiful, orange-red eyes.

Flora paused, stunned for a moment, then laughed. "You’d better save that affection for Feney and the others."

"Flora~"

Feney, who was sitting nearby, immediately blushed and pouted. "You’re teasing me again..."

The campsite was suddenly filled with laughter and cheerful voices.

----------

「The next evening.」

Finally, they saw the outline of the city in the distance.

"It’s huge..."

Lin Mo stared in amazement at the magnificent city in the distance.

Whether it was Lania City or Silver Stream City, both were truly just unremarkable small cities compared to Fajade City before him.

For starters, the city wall alone looked to be at least thirty meters high!

A moat, dozens of meters wide, lay outside the main wall. As they drew closer, they could see the clear water glinting with golden light in the twilight.

The moat was likely more than 10 meters deep as well.

From this closer distance, the details of the wall became clearer. It was constructed from massive blocks of stone, each one four meters long and two meters high and wide, all cut with incredible precision.

The blocks fit together so tightly that they seemed seamless, leaving one to wonder what method had been used to join them.

Magical runes could be seen on the surface of the stones. Right in the center, above the ten-meter-high city gate, an ocher-colored gemstone was embedded.

Evidently, in addition to the sturdiness of its materials, the city wall was also protected by a Magic Barrier.

Gazing upward, one could vaguely make out the dark shapes of cannon turrets above the gate.

Lin Mo had previously read in books that this world possessed Magic Energy Technology. While it was vastly different from his original world, there were still many similarities.

For instance, the Magic Energy information systems used by the Adventurer’s Association and some high-end hotels were similar to the internet on Blue Star, just not as developed or diverse.

The cannon turrets above the gate operated on a similar principle.

These turrets were built through the collaboration of Alchemists and Casters and possessed a powerful Magic Storage function. On a typical day, they would be filled with Magic Power and maintained. Then, at a critical moment, the Magic Circuit structure within the turret could convert the stored Magic Power into a blast of Magic and fire it.

In fact, their operating principle was very similar to that of Lin Mo’s Flame Ring.

The scale of Fajade City was astounding. A single side of the wall was said to be over 40 kilometers long, meaning the four sides had a staggering total length of 160 kilometers.

A project of this magnitude would be a challenge even for modern-day Blue Star, were it not for the power of Magic.

The area enclosed by such a massive wall made the city’s size nearly comparable to a modern metropolis on Blue Star.

And this was just a large city in a small Kingdom. The Royal Capital of the Doria Kingdom was even grander than Fajade City, to say nothing of the cities of large Kingdoms or even Empires.

This Continent was far more developed than Lin Mo had previously imagined.

But he had arrived in Roland Town and then Lania City—places that could be considered backwaters—which is why he had thought the world was relatively primitive for quite some time.

Fajade City had a total of eight gates. The one they were now approaching was the largest, serving as the city’s main entrance.

A group of Guards in Heavy Armor was responsible for watching the gate. Even ignoring their magnificent equipment, their physique and posture alone were far superior to any guards from Lania City or Silver Stream City.

Even though Silver Stream City had developed quite well under Lady Beixila’s governance, it had only narrowed the gap to a certain extent.

These Guards, however, had a surprisingly friendly attitude.

This wasn’t entirely because their carriage was so luxurious. In fact, when a rather ordinary-looking merchant caravan had entered the city just before them, the Guards had been just as courteous.
