Chapter 161: The Man Who Suddenly Appeared
Chapter 161: Chapter 161: The Man Who Suddenly Appeared
Chen Xiu laughed and said, "There are many more incidents like this. My mom always has a way to deal with those who have ulterior motives. The villagers all know my mom’s temperament, and they don’t dare to gossip in front of her."
Like this time she returned to the village, she thought about what the Li Family from the neighboring village might say about her, but after being home for many days, not a word of gossip reached her ears.
Fu Xiaoxiao listened to Chen Xiu recounting Li Yanan’s glorious achievements and smiled as she listened. Suddenly, a man stood in front of them, blocking their way.
"...Xiu’er."
Fu Xiaoxiao heard the man calling Chen Xiu by name and raised her eyebrows, thinking, who is this guy calling her so affectionately?
"Who are you?" Fu Xiaoxiao frowned and asked.
"Just call me Chen Xiu." Chen Xiu glanced at the man and whispered in Fu Xiaoxiao’s ear. "This is the man my mom used as an example before, living at the village entrance, still unmarried."
Fu Xiaoxiao scrutinized the man before them, with a skinny build like a slender bamboo pole, narrow shoulders that seemed unable to hold up his clothes, walking with a tottering gait, giving off a frail impression.
But she knew that men accustomed to farm work, although they appeared thin, were quite strong.
The man’s face was long and narrow, with dry, yellow hair and dark, rough skin, seemingly sculpted at will by time’s chisel, leaving irregular grooves.
The man should be around thirty-something but now looks like he’s in his forties or fifties.
"Chen Dali, what do you want?" Chen Xiu looked at the man in front of her with a trace of impatience; this wasn’t the first time she’d encountered him.
"I... this is for you, I... I still haven’t married yet! I know you divorced Li Si, I don’t mind, would you be my wife?" Chen Dali looked at Chen Xiu, but his eyes kept secretly glancing at Fu Xiaoxiao.
Chen Dali held some wildflowers picked from the roadside, hoping Chen Xiu would accept them.
"Thanks, but no need." Chen Xiu coldly rejected.
But Chen Dali acted as if he hadn’t heard Chen Xiu and insisted on trying to shove the flowers into her hands.
"Don’t be polite with me. I said I would definitely marry you. Now you are manless, and I am womanless. We make a perfect pair. My family may be poor, but I will certainly treat you well, so just accept me!"
"I’ve been waiting for you; haven’t married all these years..." Chen Dali’s words were aimed at Fu Xiaoxiao.
Fu Xiaoxiao frowned, repulsed by his words.
"Words that smooth, did you wipe your mouth after using the toilet?" Fu Xiaoxiao smirked at Chen Dali, stepping forward to stand between him and Chen Xiu.
"Why do I need to wipe after... you’re insulting me?" Chen Dali hadn’t understood what Fu Xiaoxiao meant, almost making Chen Xiu laugh.
"Look at you, your cerebellum is underdeveloped, and your cerebrum isn’t developed at all." Fu Xiaoxiao coldly said.
"What’s your relationship with Sister Chen Xiu? Why should her business be your concern? You blame her for everything. Are you a Liar family member or what? You can’t get a wife yourself and try to dress up as a devoted persona with Sister Chen Xiu? If you are poor, be poor transparently, what’s with the pretend of being a big-tails wolf."
"Trying to drag down Sister Xiu and attempt moral bondage? Even a weasel isn’t as calculating as you." Fu Xiaoxiao glared at him coldly.
Chen Dali’s face flushed red with shame after hearing Fu Xiaoxiao’s insults. "Don’t say that, I really like Xiu..."
Chen Xiu tugged at Fu Xiaoxiao. "Don’t provoke him; he has a mental condition, and gets extremely angry then lashes out."
"He still needs to have some self-awareness! What kind of person is he, coming up wanting to marry you, dreaming like it’s broad daylight!" Fu Xiaoxiao was speechless; how could there be such a person.
Chen Dali cast cold eyes at Fu Xiaoxiao and Chen Xiu, fiercely threw the flowers on the ground.
"You dirty bitches, flaunting despite being ravaged by others, hitting here. You’re no virginal maiden, the fact that I, Chen Dali, am willing to have you is your good fortune. Yet you humiliate me with others? I’ve waited so many years, how dare you reject me? What’s your treasure, anyway?"
Chen Dali pointed at Chen Xiu and Fu Xiaoxiao with blazing rage, scolding them.
Seeing him having a meltdown, Fu Xiaoxiao smirked. "Who’s the one losing it, I won’t say, but the one being hit knows better."
"No matter what, Sister Chen Xiu is not someone you can covet. She looks good. She’s just not dressed up over the years. Even if she remarries, she’ll marry well, unlike some people."
"Being poor is one thing, but being poor at heart is the worry. Not being able to marry a wife, excusing as waiting for someone, people have self-awareness, but not you." Fu Xiaoxiao looked at Chen Dali apathetically.
Poverty is never the problem. The issue is he considers poverty due to bad luck rather than insufficient effort.
Dressed sloppily with no care for appearance, revealing through his looks much about him, lacking motivation, blaming heavens, earth, and parents every day, with eyes coveting others, he won’t live well, and whose daughter would be willing to marry him.
"Xiu, how can you let her say that about me? How am I inferior to that Li Si? Isn’t it just money he has and joined the military?" Chen Dali kept staring at Chen Xiu, albeit recognized the hit home by Fu Xiaoxiao, but was still defiant.
Years ago, he also passionately wanted to marry her but was turned down by Li Yanan. What does he have less than Li Si? Turns out Li Si was no good anyway; otherwise, Chen Xiu wouldn’t be back at the village.
Yet why still not choose him? Is it because of poverty?
"Look at yourself in the mirror; even if Sister Chen Xiu wants to remarry, it’s not possibly for you." Watching him still pestering Chen Xiu, Fu Xiaoxiao bluntly spoke.
"Chen Dali, stop harassing me! I told you before, there’s no possibility between us!" Chen Xiu frowned at Chen Dali, seriously saying.
She never planned on finding another man after divorcing Li Si; she only wanted to raise her child well, having no interest in men.
After seeing through men’s true nature, Chen Xiu lost all interest, discussed this with Li Yanan, and her whole family supported her decision not to remarry.
However, Chen Dali seemed to ignore Chen Xiu’s rejection, continuing speaking on his own. "Xiu, I know you just split with Li Si. That Li Si was not good, hurt your heart, but trust me, give me a chance; you’ll definitely see my goodness, my feelings for you are genuine."
Chen Xiu was furious, face flushed, yelling angrily. "You are simply unreasonable! Don’t use me as a scapegoat just because you can’t marry a wife. I have no thoughts about you. Stop following me and disturbing my life. Keep this up, I’ll tell my parents to come to you and see how ridiculous you are!"
"Xiaoxiao, let’s go." Chen Xiu snorted coldly, pulling Fu Xiaoxiao, turning around and leaving briskly.
Left behind was Chen Dali, looking pale then red, watching their departing figures, his face no longer smiling, replaced with somberness.
